1. Prepare. Make sure every item has a readable barcode and print labels for those that do not. Check that product records and codes match in your accounting system.
2. Label locations. Put location barcodes on racks and bins. Staff then scan the location first and the goods in it, so stock is tied to an exact place.
3. Scan. Work zone by zone with data collection terminals; data uploads to the system in real time or when a zone is finished.
4. Review differences. The system shows shortages and surpluses; recount the doubtful lines. After that it is easy to move to regular cycle counts. BDB can help with terminals, printers and setup.
